Our Founder
Montessori teacher, trainer, author and consultant Wendy Fidler founded MEfA Montessori School in 2009 and remains Head of School and our Academic Director. Wendy's first school, Wildwood Montessori, grew from her home-school and local families quickly wanted to join in.
Spending time in the West Pennine moors, Wendy was privileged to watch over her children as they rode horses and played violins whilst watching veils of rain emerging from the Derbyshire hills, squidged winberries for eating or dyeing material, or made maps of what they observed.
As a Montessori OFSTED (Schools) Inspector, Wendy was pleased to see the change in emphasis on mainstream and independent Early Years Education to focus on Social, Communication and Physical Development (rather than academic skills). As a British Accreditation Council Inspector, Wendy examined Montessori, Steiner, Pestalozzi and other non-mainstream universities and teacher training colleges.
As a result Wendy has a unique and valuable understanding of the needs, interests and understanding of a wide range of educational philosophies and methodologies.
Wendy's astute eye for statutory frameworks and the law has opened many doors for her, including as an Expert Witness advising the Courts in the UK on Education Law, Education Negligence and Special Educational Needs
